The 80’s were filled with colors, wacky accessories, hair, and- of course- trends! From oversized blazers, denim, big hair, and lacey shirts, the 80’s had it all. Chances are, your parents grew up in this time period, or possibly even before! What were some of the most memorable of these? One of the big things back then, was definitely ripped jeans. The holes in the jeans would most likely be in the knees, and bands were a big thing to push and inspire this trend. Another mention we can’t forget has to be fanny packs- a bag placed like a belt, or carried somewhat like a purse across your chest. Heavy makeup was also quite common, a good example being of pink lipstick, blue eyeshadow, and more. Eighth grade Alex Ramusack, who dressed with an 80’s theme for Halloween states, “I went as an 80’s barbie, and for the bottoms I wore leggings and a tutu, which I still see people wear for occasions when they dress up for sports, pink/blue outs, etc. For the top, I wore a half sleeve shirt which I can see coming back, since people sometimes do that with sweatshirts..” Next time you’re thinking about the evolution of fashion, think back to the 80’s. Why not ask some adults about their experience?
