84 Student selected for Junior Journalism Program

By: Eliza Smiley

Every year, the Indiana Sports Corp. holds the Inspiring Sports Junior Journalism Program during the Big 10 Championships for football and basketball. The program selects 14 young journalists in grades five through eight and pairs them with a Big Ten university.

CFI 84’s very own Emma Eckerle, a sixth grader, was chosen for this year’s program and paired with the University of Michigan football team. The students were given a writing assignment and access to coaches, attended a workshop with sports journalists and given a back-stage tour of Lucas Oil Stadium.

Emma’s article is titled “Coach Mimi Bolden-Morris: A Trailblazer.” Coach Mimi is a quarterback coach for the Michigan Wolverines and the Big Ten’s first female football coach. As Emma stated in her article, Coach Mimi believes “It is a blessing and honor to be an inspiration to other little girls to do whatever they want to.” Congratulations Emma on this great achievement!
