Black History Month

Black History Month is a time of the year when we celebrate the achievements of important African Americans like: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks and Madam CJ Walker. These people are important because they helped make change for black people, including working to give African Americans equal rights.

Black History Month was founded in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson, as a week-long celebration, but in 1976 it became a month-long celebration in February. Each year there is a theme and this year it is Black Resistance

Interview questions for Principal Miller

What does CFI do to celebrate Black History month? Principal Miller’s response: “ Our advisers and students are sharing a fact every day on the announcements. Each week kindergarten is reading a class book about black history. 5th grade is presenting to the school projects! 1st grade is doing projects related to black history month. And in the media center Mrs . Loftus is reading books aloud. IS is working on a black history that will be shared in front of the school. Then on MLK Day we played the happy birthday song. The happy Birthday song helped make MLK Day a nationwide day to celebrate. I know that Black history is not any different from any ‘regular history’, they are all equal.”
