Family Halloween Movies

Written by Tyler Gilvin, River Endicott and Miles Miller

There are lots of great movies to watch in fall, especially Halloween movies! “Hocus Pocus” and “Hotel Transylvania" are two of our favorites.

“Hocus Pocus” is a great family movie for all ages. This movie is about two high school students and a little sister. When the trio visits a witch and supernatural artifact store, they stumble into a predicament. They release three evil witches into the city of Salem, Massachusetts. Then they have to team up and stop the witches from taking over the city with their spells, and they learn to fight back as a team to save Halloween and the city of Salem. Sixth grader Zachary Pittman said, “I would rate the movie 3.5 out of 5. I have watched it three times, and I think it's a good movie to watch with your family.” This movie has a 4.5 star rating on commonsensemedia.org. Find this great movie on Disney+ and your local TV streaming service during the spooky season.

For students, we think that “Hotel Transylvania” is a very good movie pick. “Hotel Transylvania” is about Count Dracula who owns a hotel where all monsters can come and rest. When Count Dracula’s daughter, Mavis, falls in love with a human named Jonathan, Count Dracula is very angry and upset. He goes through a lot to try and make sure that Mavis and Jonathan do not get together, but then starts to wonder if all this work is really worth it. “Hotel Transylvania” is funny, full of action and great for families. Fourth grader Magnolia Pittman said, “This movie is very good to watch with your family.” She rated it a 4 out of 5. You can find this movie on Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV and other streaming services.
