New & Modern Costumes

While some people may prefer the traditional costumes, there are many people who use creativity in their costume. People may dress up as their favorite movie or TV show character, such as Elsa, Spiderman, Wednesday Adams, Mario or Belle. Eighth grader Adeline Duncan dressed up as Wednesday last year. “I liked being Wednesday because it was someone that nobody else dressed up as at the time.”

Other notable costume themes are food themed, like a pumpkin, a Starbucks cup, a pretzel or a bag of jelly beans. Some people might even choose to dress up as a person from history, such as Alexander Hamilton, Betsy Ross, Zeus or Amelia Earhart! Some other creative costumes include portraying a job, like a construction worker, a barista, a cheerleader or a chef.

When thinking about standard Halloween costumes, some of the things you may think of could include simple costumes like ghosts, witches, vampires and other such spooky creatures and things. In fact, one of your very first costumes may have been something similar to these! Many younger kids or people who may just want to stick with the classic basics tend to do easier costumes, and stay away from the more modern costumes today with specific characters and/or original creativity. Some other traditional Halloween costumes could be things like an animal, a clown or an angel or devil. No matter the type of costume you do — classic or traditional — you're sure to have a great time on Halloween night!
