New Year's Celebrations

New Year's Day is a day where people celebrate another year going by while doing different traditions to hope for good luck in the future! Lots of people have different ways of celebrating the new year, so let's look at a few!

According to Afar.com, In Spain they eat 12 grapes to represent the 12 strikes of the clock. They do this because it gets rid of evil and gives you good luck in the new year. According to Greenglobaltravel.com, In Denmark they like to throw old plates at their friends and family's door steps! When you do this you are giving good luck to your loved ones. According to Glamour.com, Greece, Canada, and Brazil all have their own fun traditions! In Greece hanging an onion on the outside of your front door will give you good luck. They believe that it shows fertility and growth. In Canada some people go ice fishing outside! They cook a meal with their fish and enjoy it with friends and family. In Brazil people go to the beach and jump seven waves while making seven wishes, but they have to wear white because it symbolizes purity.

Seventh grader Penelope Stark celebrates the new year with her loved ones too! “To ring in the new year, my family and I visit my grandparents and spend the holidays in Iowa.”

Each of these new years celebrations are special but each very unique and different from one another. They can be simple things like visiting family or going ice fishing outside in freezing temperatures! So what do you do to celebrate the new year?
