No Gum Policy

Written by Thea Ooi-Chatten and Mae Miller

WARNING: Don’t chew gum or else! In middle school, almost everybody chews gum, but because some students stuck it in places it doesn’t go, it got taken away. Students are devastated because gum is great and also helps some students focus more in class.

Sixth grader Truly Vanes says, “ I honestly feel fine about the no gum policy since we are still allowed to have mints in our classes. The only way to prevent the ban is to be responsible for your trash!”

Mrs. Tillery wanted students to have gum in the beginning of the year, but then changed her opinion when she found gum and wrappers all over her classroom. Mrs. Tillery also found gum in the hallways.

So can we get it back or not? The gum policy isn’t an actual policy yet, but a pause. Stay tuned...
