Presidents' Birthday's

Elyse Banai

In February, many things are celebrated: Valentine's Day, Groundhog Day, Mardi Gras, and much more! But what also happens in February is President’s Day which is in honor of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. George Washington, the first president of the United States, will be celebrating his 285th birthday on February 22nd. When President Washington was still alive, he would celebrate his birthday by writing letters and attending meetings. Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president, will be celebrating his 159th birthday on February 12th. When President Lincoln was alive he would spend his birthday with family and friends and relax.

I interviewed Mr. McMichael, our individuals and societies teacher about his thoughts on presidents. “Abraham Lincoln is my favorite president, he made such a difference in the world,” McMichael said, “What I love most about presidents is that they start as ‘normal’ human beings, but then become heroes and saviors.”

I also interviewed Annabelle Siri, a sixth grader here at CFI, “My favorite president is George Washington, he was our first president and made such a difference in the world.” Siri says, “I look up to our presidents because they work very hard to run a whole country!”
