Presidents' Day

By: Emma Towns

Presidents’ Day was established in 1971 by President Richard Nixon. But by then our country had already been celebrating our most famous founding father George Washington's birthday on February 22nd for over 100 years. According to History.com, the 1971 law shifted the focus from Washington’s birthday to all presidents. Presidents’ Day is always celebrated on the third Monday of February. There are three other presidents with birthdays in February. Abraham Lincoln on the 12th; William Henry Harrison on the 9th and Ronald Regan on the 6th. Therefore that is why we don’t just celebrate one president in the month of February.
