Shedding light on Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month. Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder, is a broad range of conditions that can affect social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), every 1 in 36 people is affected by autism.

This month is meant to shed light on Autism and help show support for those affected. Different organizations like The Autism Society of Indiana and The Autism Speaks Foundation help fund and support events that provide more information about autism. The Autism Speaks Foundation has started a program where it encourages businesses to change the color of their lights to blue in support of autism during April.
