The Eclipse

By Liam Leary

On April 8th, 2024, Indianapolis will get to see a solar eclipse! A total solar eclipse hasn’t happened in the US since 2017, so this will be the first time in 6 years that Indy has seen a total solar eclipse. After this eclipse, the next total solar eclipse for the US will occur around 20 years from now, and the next one for Indiana after that is in 2099! But, you might be thinking, what even is a solar eclipse? Well, a solar eclipse is when the moon crosses in front of the sun (from the earth’s perspective) causing all light to have to go around the moon. This is also why you need a specific type of glasses to view a solar eclipse, because all the light being forced around the moon can cause blindness. As I said, solar eclipses are very rare, so Indy is excited for this eclipse! Finally, don’t forget to wear glasses if you want to see the eclipse!
