To High School and Beyond!

By Alice Christie, Claire Becher, and Evie Haug

With promotion only two months away, eighth graders are preparing for high school. There’s a long list of things to do before high school starts. They have to pick out their classes, possibly take summer school, and register at their chosen school. Some schools also have an application process, which can include a test and essays. For some kids, preparing for performing arts auditions or sports tryouts is necessary. Many students also ensure that they go to all the events that their school offers, such as open houses and curriculum nights. 15 out of the 48 eighth graders are still trying to decide which high school to attend.

Most kids are excited to start a new chapter of their school career, but it’s also bittersweet. Many eighth graders have been at CFI since kindergarten, and they are going to be leaving the people they have spent nine years with. 8th grader Alex Ramusack, who will be attending Chatard next year, says she’s looking forward to meeting new people and trying new things. Many students are excited for a change, since they’ve been with most of their current classmates for many years.

8th grader Maeve Shirley, who will be attending North Central next year, says she’s nervous about the homework and the classes getting harder and more strict. Most 8th graders are nervous about the increase in work and assignments. Owen Giese, who is also going to North Central, is excited about the options for sports, like the volleyball team. Many high schools offer incredible opportunities for athletics and performance. We can’t wait to see the amazing places the class of 2024 is headed!
